Moutsoulas will not seek re-election

School Committee member Michael Moutsoulas has decided not to seek re-election to the school committee when his term expires in 2010.

Salem News: Incumbent decides against second term

The article notes that there are 3 members who have not yet pulled papers for re-election: Moutsoulas, Beverley Dunne and Edward Nizwantowski. So far the only new comers to the race are Jarrod Hochman, who ran in 2005, and Neil Papamechail.

This might lead to further speculation concerning Committee member Dunne who is rumored to be considering a run against Mayor Bonfanti.

I think that some newly elected School Committee members have high hopes and dreams that can quickly vanquished here in Dark City...sometimes it must feel like you are shoveling sand against the onrushing tide...sometimes it must seem like things take forever to fix or address...if you are looking for rapid change, progress and speedy results then local politics is not the place for you...Moutsoulas seems like a decent, well intended man...the kind of people we may want to be in this capacity but he is probably frustrated and disappointed that he cannot do what he envisioned...he is yet another victim of the Dark City cloud over education.

What reason did he give for not running?

Well, in the article he is quoted saying this...

""I ran on a commitment to have no personal agenda and have given 100 percent of myself to our schools over the past four years," he said in a press release Friday.

It was a tough decision not to run again, but it has been a full four years, he said by phone.

"It's never been my intention to spend a lifetime on the School Committee," he said. "My military service was four years. You get to a certain point and you measure. Now, I think ... is a good time.

"I still have a lot of work ahead of me, but I wanted to let the public know as a courtesy and to welcome other newcomers into public service."

Maybe he has been given a "Personal Agenda" from the little man in the corner office.

That is how I read the article.

According to the Lynn Item, he may be thinking about another office.
