Return to the Roundtable

Dear Readers:

I would like to easily explain my absence by claiming some major catastrophe prevented my blogging, but it did not. Instead, it was more the case of many smaller important issues that needed addressing (work, family, health, computer) which conspired to keep me away from here.

But that is not entirely true either.

Truly, it as all of these things, but it was also the disillusionment of watching the Peabody blogs, and the political climate in general, descend into baseless accusations and childish name calling.

Unless you have tried your hand at starting and operating a blog, you really don't understand that it takes quite a lot of time. And during the past 4 months I have had many important demands on my time. Especially considering these troubling economic times - a devotion to work related matters was essential.

I am certainly NOT complaining... but it was both frustrating and sad to see well reasoned discussions being overtaken by bluster, blather and bad manners. It simply became to easy to put off a post for a day... then a week... then a month.

I had hoped some of the other posters here might fill in some slack, but only Needham Corner rose to the occasion. My thanks go to NC.

So why am I back? Well I have been reading the other blogs and was at least satisfied that there was somewhere to carry on the Peabody discussions. But then they both stopped posting as well.

I had decided to begin some limited posts on May 1st... and then both the Twisted Tanner and Peabody Elections also posted right around that time.

The conspiracy minded (and you know you're out there) might conclude that we are all in this together... or we are all the same person... but we certainly are NOT.

I will continue reading the Salem News, the Item and the Peabody Weekly News and trying to offer both opinions and a place to discuss the important articles of the week.
I do not promise to post more than about twice a week, but I will try to increase this if something important needs to be said.

I said that this would be a LAME explanation for my absence, and it is. But it is honest and I felt I owed it to you.

Bottom line is I felt like I was accomplishing little to nothing here… and all the time and effort required to continue this blog became too burdensome as I felt I was not making a difference. And I want to make a difference.

Peabody is a pretty good place.
Peabody can be a better place.
And I would like to help make it better.

That's why I'm back.

Welcome back to the blogosphere PI! I for one have certainly missed both this and the other site. With any luck, the grade-school level minded idiots will not be back. Looking forward to hearing again from the Outfront Guy, GP, NC and yourself as well as the countless anons putting in their two cents worth. Now all we need is something worth talking about to happen in this dull city of ours...

Welcome back PI! Its nice to have your voice back in the blogshpere. As for the extended break, everyone deserves one and no explanation is needed. Now lets get down to business.

PI, sometimes the blog won't let me comment. Any reason why?

When trying to post, press the "publish your comment" button TWICE. It will post on the second try.

Sometimes it goes the first time...

I have no idea why this is happening.

I ASSURE you all that I have comments ENABLED and UNMODERATED as I always have done.

This is to promote open and frank (and timely) discussions.

I also means that sometimes SPAM and dangerous links are posted by hackers and bots.

I have emailed Google about the issues but (surprise) I have heard nothing back from them.

So far I have had no problems posting comments here with a logged in account. Perhaps it is more troublesome with anonymous comments... I don't know.

And anonymous comments are indeed welcome, but I think everyone would be better served if people could use a consistent name (even anonymously, like WHOGAF or OG) so we know who we are reading/talking to.

I get the feeling you are the same person as is TT. One column is used against the other for ultimate outcome over the other thereby quelling or adding to an issue of concern by the readership of both sites. Yes, I will be identified as
"The Greek" on this site and on the Twisted Tanner. We may be a slowly vanishing ethnic people in Peabody but we made the city what it was in its glory days of yesterday. Before the critics take to heat I want to say they ,as ethnic people, did also .

Welcome Greek... Shall we call you TG (The Greek)??

I can only assure you that I am not running or involved with the Twisted Tanner blog in any way. Or any other Peabody blog (except for the dormant Inside Peabody site which remains open, but is not being updated).

And I am certainly not TT, Pat Patriot, OG, WHOGAF, GP, NC, or anyone else! Nor have I gone by ANY other name on these blogs. The only other name I have posted under is Leather City on the Salem News blog (because someone else had already 'taken' Peabody Insider).

I hope to finish up some last minute business and begin to post again this coming week.

Frankly, except for the stories about the PMLP - both the rate increase and th continuation of the Plant Manager - there was nothing of very big interest cooking in the City at the moment.

I would be more than welcoming of any ideas!

Nothing big?!? How about a new vision for the downtown. A fresh idea that was formally presented and swayed the council. I think this one deserves its own post (and if you could get a copy of the presentation that would be fantastic).

I Agree! This IS very worthy of it's own post.
