Peabody Patriot has closed shop (again)(again)
I have made this post too many times now. The Peabody Patriot has closed shop yet again. This is on the heels of Peabody Elections (Keith Doucette's blog) closing the previous day. For better or worse folks... I (again) will be here to host this forum for your comments, commendations and criticisms of the goings on here in the City of Peabody.
Everyone is welcome here to participate in an adult level of discourse concerning the important issues to the City of Peabody, Massachusetts.
At least Keith seems to have a reason for closing that blog - he has pulled papers to run for Ward 6 Councilor. This is a very smart move (closing the blog) in my opinion. As a public official (or someone running for such a post) it is probably not in your best interest to be confronting anonymous people in a public arena.
Now as for the Peabody Patriot... that is another issue altogether. It is really quite a bit of work to run an active blog, and frankly this newest PP was doing a pretty good job. I am sad to see another voice removed from the blog scene.
I also worry at to why..... Now everything I am about to say here-in is PURE CONJECTURE and has little factual information to back it up. It is PURE SPECULATION on my part.
Did you notice that one of the very last things the Patriot posted was that a MOLE in the City Clerk's office had told him that Keith Doucette had pulled papers to run for Ward Councilor...
Now, I DO KNOW a little bit about how City Hall operates - and a little TOO MUCH about how the computer infrastructure works. It is a FACT that ALL computer access is monitored 24 hours a day on City computers. This means EVERYTHING. Emails sent and received. Web sites accessed. Even instant messaging through your computer is recorded and logged... AND CHECKED.
Perhaps the MOLE was 'discovered' and some form of punishment or threats were in the offering? I have no idea BUT I would not put it past the current administration to view these actions as both illegal (using a city computer and city time for personal business) and disloyal.
Like I said... this is (mostly) conjecture. The way City Hall operates its computer system is NOT conjecture though - that is a fact.

I think you are on to something. I've felt for a long time that the Patriot blog was being run by a city employee. I know someone who works at city hall, and they told me that the original Patriot blog used to run information all the time from behind closed doors at city hall.
For example, the mayor would say something in a meeting with staff at 1 p.m., and it would be on the Peabody Patriot by 1:30. That happened on numerous occasions and makes me feel that the blog was being done by someone on Bonfanti's staff.
Believe it or not I JUST got a little anon warning that I better be careful or I may be next!
I'm not sure if this was a warning from someone who is trying to help or hurt me??

Patriot just pointed his domain name to a Namesecure "under construction" page. Looks like he leases his url from Namesecure. Wonder what that means? Maybe he's just changing his blogging provider to something other than Google and this is an interim step?
PI. That Anon is full of it. You know they can't do anything to you. This isn't freaking Iran. I hope you're laughing at such ridiculous threats.

The www.peabodypatriot.com domain is NOT the blogger domain. If I remember correctly, one of the first Pat's owns (owned?) this domain and has pointed its URL to where ever he chooses.
It may or may not have also changed hands over time. It is managed by a company that uses a protection scheme to shield the owners name and contact information... something I disapprove of but apparently is not illegal.
The page you are seeing that says "coming soon" is the standard cover sheet the management company uses when no site is attached to the URL. I do not think it means a new patriot site is forthcoming.

more of the same...and OG keeps going on and on and on....it appears that PI and myself are the only ones with any staying power here in Dark City...and here's the difference..at least with OG...OG is no 'insider' sneaking around the basement of city hall...OG is a regular citizen like many of you readers out there...what I say is MY opinion and not based on some 'inside scoop or stolen memo'...OG is a taste of true reality...let's keep it going as the revolving door turns once again.
Once again PI rules the blogoshpere. Like the sun recently, the Patriot is no where to be found. OG, you and PI are not the only ones that have been around through the changes, you are just the only ones who haven't changed your moniker. I too, am a regular citizen with no connections at city hall. I have been reading and commenting since the days of the old citizens blog. I've used many a different name as well as the ever-popular anon to post my comments. I'm sure there are several others doing just the same. The Patriot was a great place to spout off on the issues and I'm sure that PI can keep the ball rolling here as well. We've lost a site but not our forum. The issues will endure and so must our ability to voice our views publicly. PI has shown that he has the mettle not to fold under the pressure of threats. Good for you, PI. Keep it going.
This last Patriot is a jerk. Imagine just disappearing with no explanation. Why be such a coward? We know running blogs is hard work but to just run away like a little boy is unbecoming

I do not know why the most recent Patriot closed down... I was simply making some guesses...
I have not been contacted by this Patriot (some of the others were in email contact) and welcome any word concerning his condition.
I did send and email and got this in reply...

Well it seems the rumor was wrong and that there was some organized group (or one) poster who wished to make it look real when it was false.

Unlike many others I will state when I have made a mistake. This obviously is a mistake and I am sorry if I have offended you (yet again.)
That being said... I am not a paid reporter and do not have all the time in the world to check everything myself. I do not, for instance, call the participants in every news article to confirm the reporters veracity.
However... I probably should have been a little more vigilant when it comes to rumor passing by anonymous sources. I will try and do better.
I will also make this a post so that others will see that Keith Doucette is not running in Ward 6.

c'mon PI--if this indeed is the REAL PI--- can we deal with reality and facts and not this hearsay, innuendo and rumor nonsense? OG is not an ardent KD supporter but this kind of story without wings just should not fly from your keyboard about him or any possible candidate...I am surprised.
