Ward Council races starting to get interesting

It has been reported on The Peabody Patriot that two new folks have tossed their hats into the ring. Jeff Grayson (a political new comer - at least to me) has pulled papers to run against Ward 4 Councilor Bob Driscoll and in Ward 6, Keith Doucette has also pulled papers to run against Councilor Barry Sinewitz.

I personally welcome ALL participants into the political fray - as long as they are serious candidates and have the best interests of the people at heart.

I think a vigorous campaign that is well intentioned and focuses on substantial issues in these difficult times is the VERY BEST THING FOR OUR CITY!

I would be proud to sign the nomination papers for these two gentlemen, or anyone else serious about entering the political stage.

That Doucette vs. Sinewitz race should be an interesting one!

Looks like the Patriot blog has been removed -- again!

What happened to the Patriot? It was just there a few minutes ago.

What the hell?

I saw yesterday Keith's Blog was gone... and now the Patriot is gone too...

I was JUST THERE... in fact, I had it open in a different window and thought that this Anon was wrong... but...

Blog has been removed

Sorry, the blog at peabodypatriot5.blogspot.com has been removed. This address is not available for new blogs.

This is bizarre. Perhaps it is simply a glitch in blogger... but I (and you) have seen this too many times before...

Well... you are all welcome here.

Strange because the Patriot was starting to pick up steam again with some election talk. You do a good job PI, but we need the Patriot too. Maybe is it just a glitch.

Let's hope. The more information we have to choose from the better. These blogs are WAY better than the Snooze and other newspapers out there.

I have been and still am a big fan of many voices being heard. I often agree and other times disagree with The Patriot (or the many people who have filled that role over time.)

I hope this is a bug as well.

But, frankly, I fear the worst.

I am preparing a post on this now.

Any word/rumors out of Ward 3? Has Mello pulled papers yet? I would like to see some competition for that spot.

it's good that people are running but no one is saying anything ! what is the compelling reason to vote for ANY of these candidates?? oops, never mind, I forgot...the campaigns all start after Labor Day here in Dark City...there so much bottled up political energy in this town I can't stand it!

has anyone pulled papers for city atlarge or school committee?

I notice Rob forti has a sign up on lynn st. I also noticed it was the same colors as charlie B's and just like Bonfanti's no union bug. People notice candidates people notice. Peabody was founded on unions

The Patriot is a jerk said...

Anyone who would not vote for someone only because they didn't have a "union bug" on their signs is an idiot. Someone not having union signs doesn't mean they are anti-union. Mr. Forti is a new candidate so he probably doesn't even realize this is some sort of ridiculous breech.

How about judging people on the issues rather than their printing habits? What a freaking shallow issue this is.

Rumor is Croce pulled papers in Ward 5 today. Anyone hear anything?

Anonymous said...

Why don't you ask a union printer how shallow an isssue it is. It's a lot more than a spot on a piece of paper. It means the company that printed the material is taking pride in knowing the quality of their services are of the highest standard and they treat their emplyoees the same . think before you write.Signed union printer and VOTER!!!!!

Looked at a Forti sign on Lynnfield street. It has union markings on it - lower right corner.

Highest of quality. What a joke. Highest priced might be more like it. Lazy union workers have destroyed out great nation.

Maybe this is the problem with our cities political issues. A post about the Ward races turns into a bunch of bitching about signs and who made them.

Well it seems the rumor was wrong and that there was some organized group (or one) poster who wished to make it look real when it was false.

Here is what I wrote at Keith's Blog:

Keith...

I reported a 'rumor' then it was 'confirmed' by many posters.

Then you pulled your site down.

This all seemed to fit.

Sorry if you feel wronged again.

Unlike many others I will state when I have made a mistake. This obviously is a mistake and I am sorry if I have offended you (yet again.)

That being said... I am not a paid reporter and do not have all the time in the world to check everything myself. I do not, for instance, call the participants in every news article to confirm the reporters veracity.

However... I probably should have been a little more vigilant when it comes to rumor passing by anonymous sources. I will try and do better.

I will also make this a post so that others will see that Keith Doucette is not running in Ward 6.

The Contrarian says "Hey KD--chill out will ya please". Who gives a hoot if you run for anything. And now we see the Great PI caught with his hand in the cookie jar. My oh my The Contrarian is just sitting here chuckling with all of this mindless chatter. Is there anyone out there with any credibility any more? Not only are we lacking for good candidates but now the critics are all sucking pond water too. The Contrarian may be your only hope.

A contrarian is someone who poses as a skeptic, refusing to accept consensus conclusions in science on the ground that there is still some uncertainty. As Chris Mooney writes:

That doesn’t mean that scientific consensus is right in every instance. There are famous examples, in fact, of when it was proved wrong: Galileo comes to mind, as does a lowly patent clerk named Einstein. In the vast majority of modern cases, however, scientific consensus can be expected to hold up under scrutiny precisely because it was reached through a lengthy and rigorous process of professional skepticism and criticism.*
Contrarians are particularly active in the areas of climate change and other environmental issues, but they have been active in many other areas as well, such as tobacco and health issues. Contrarians demand endless analysis of issues to prevent any action from being taken rather than to ensure that the most reasonable conclusion be arrived at. Polluters and anyone else opposed to government regulations are well served by the contrarian's paralysis by analysis. Contrarians often refer to their endless demands for more study and their claims that doubts still remain—no matter what the consensus—as "sound science," a bit of doublespeak that is the scientific equivalent of the filibuster.

Rather than demanding we dig deeper in order to clarify issues, the contrarian simply wants to throw dust in people's eyes so they can't see what's really going on. The function of contrarians is to arouse fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) and promote the false notion that "sound science" is science where you can't find a contrary view. The contrarian philosophy is Orwellian doublespeak at its best: Some of the best science available is labeled "junk science" by contrarians simply because there are contrary views that may be held by a very small minority

Welcome Al Gore to the Roundtable.

Tell me, contrarian, how PI has her hand "in the cookie jar"? Your metaphor makes zero sense. A person with his (usually HIS, ain't it?) hand in the cookie jar is stealing something that is not for him, on the Q.T. How can that possibly apply in the case of making a mistake and accepting blogosphere-BS rumors as potentially real??

I think PI was set up by some scamps in the blogosphere. Poor soul. She'll learn.
